Conveniently located near Fukuyama Castle Park, the Hiroshima Prefectural Museum of History is an easy stop while exploring central Fukuyama.
It is about a 5-minute walk west of JR Fukuyama Station (North Exit / "Fukuyama Castle Exit"), making it convenient to visit between major sightseeing spots.

The museum’s major highlight is a full-scale reconstruction of Kusado Sengen, a nationally renowned medieval port town that flourished from the Kamakura to Muromachi periods. Here, you can experience history not only by reading about it, but also by walking through it.

Highlights for Visitors

  • Life-size reconstruction of Kusado Sengen: immerse yourself in the scene of early-summer dusk during the Muromachi period.
  • Display of excavated artifacts: organized by function to evoke scenes of daily life.
  •  Understand the history of the Seto Inland Sea (Setouchi) region: trace its story from prehistoric times to the modern era.

In one visit, you can connect the history of the Fukuyama Castle area and the Seto Inland Sea (Setouchi) region—ideal for those seeking something beyond the standard sightseeing route.
