What is "Business for Peace"?

The international community faces many global challenges that hinder the realization of peace. In order to solve these issues, it is essential to build a foundation of peace that allows for cooperation and mutual trust across countries and fields.
Furthermore, it is believed that proactively addressing these challenges will contribute to the building and maintenance of peace.
In the face of rising global uncertainty, it is becoming increasingly important for the business community to use its power for peace.

Relationship between business and peace

"Business for Peace" and Hiroshima

Hiroshima suffered extensive damage from the atomic bomb in 1945, but was rebuilt thanks to the efforts of local businesses and people. Hiroshima, a symbol of "resilient spirit of recovery and hope for the future," is one of the most important places when talking about the future of peace and business.

Reconstruction of Hiroshima
To this end, Hiroshima Prefecture has been holding forums since 2013 to discuss contribution to peace through business activities from multiple perspectives.
The 2025 Hiroshima Business Forum for Global Peace (May 30–31, 2025), held to mark the 80th remebrance of the atomic bombing and the end of the war, brought together the Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture and leaders from the business community both in Japan and abroad, and the 2025 Hiroshima Declaration was announced at the start of the forum.
This declaration aims to advance a global shift from “ESG” (Environmental, Social, and Governance), which refers to investment activities and business activities that take into consideration environmental, social, and governance factors, to “ESGP” (Environmental, Social, Governance, and Peace).

Hiroshima Prefecture and the Hiroshima Organization for Global Peace (HOPe) will actively seek support from the business community under the banner of ESGP, and will work to promote efforts to actually encourage businesses to contribute to peace.
