Aiming for a Peaceful World without Nuclear Weapons
Hiroshima rose from destruction caused by the atomic bomb and has achieved recovery, which has made it a symbol of peace. Its history as such has motivated Hiroshima to assume the mission and role of making a specific contribution to the international community’s efforts to realize a world without nuclear weapons.
To fulfill its mission and role, Hiroshima Prefecture is engaged in activities aimed at the abolition of nuclear weapons and the realization of peace based on the "Hiroshima for Global Peace" Plan in cooperation with domestic and international organizations and Hiroshima Organization for Global Peace (HOPe).
Three Approaches toward Nuclear Weapons Abolition
Hiroshima Prefecture and HOPe are focusing on three approaches aimed at achieving a world without nuclear weapons.

Seeking the involvement of the International Community
Utilizing the Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and meetings related to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), we communicate our commitment to peace directly to UN ambassadors and representatives of various governments. In addition, we hold the side events in those meetings to emphasize the importance of nuclear weapons abolition.
Towards a Sustainable Future without Nuclear Weapons
We aim to establish a strong connection between the issue of nuclear weapons and sustainability to ensure that the issue of nuclear weapons is addressed as a global challenge akin to climate change and pandemics. To fulfill this aim, we are working to involve the international community and promote collaboration with diverse entities.
#Cranes For Our Future
This is a social media campaign to call for people to send messages of peace together with photos of origami cranes. Many people participate in this initiative every year to spread support for nuclear weapons abolition.
