Hiroshima Prefecture and HOPe positioned the year marking 80 years since the first atomic bombing in human history and the end of World War II as a turning point in accelerating our efforts toward the abolition of nuclear weapons. To mark this key turning point, we implemented two major projects.

Sending a Message from Hiroshima to the Future Together with Global Leaders:

Project to Bring Global Leaders Together to Discuss the Future and Peace

We held various events with the participation of influential leaders from various sectors both in Japan and abroad.

Strengthening Capacity Building to Connect Peace to the Future:

Project to Bring Youth Together to Connect Peace to the Future

To ensure continued dissemination of messages of nuclear weapons abolition despite hibakusha reaching very advanced age, we conducted Peace Education Programs mainly during the summer months of July to September, when attention to the atomic-bombed city of Hiroshima would peak.

Initiatives by Municipalities in Hiroshima Prefecture to Mark 80 Years Since the Atomic Bombing and the End of World War II

Municipalities within Hiroshima Prefecture also implemented various peace initiatives, working together throughout the prefecture toward the realization of a world without nuclear weapons.
