Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Chugoku's Peace Initiatives

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is an independent administrative agency established under the Japan International Cooperation Agency Act (Act No. 136 of 2002) for the purpose of promoting international cooperation and contributing to the sound development of Japan and the international economic community by contributing to economic and social development and reconstruction in developing regions and to economic stability.
JICA also works with Hiroshima Prefecture to implement a variety of programs, including the acceptance of training programs for government officials from developing countries.
This page provides information on JICA's activities and projects conducted in cooperation with Hiroshima Prefecture.

Recruitment of Overseas Cooperation Volunteers

JICA uses the government's ODA budget to dispatch people who wish to make use of their knowledge, skills, and experience to developing countries as Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV).
They are also called “grassroots diplomats” because they speak the same language as the local people and tackle issues from the same perspective.
This page provides information about JICA Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers, and information about the JOCV

Hiroshima Peace Ambassadors

Hiroshima Prefecture appoints the JOCV members from Hiroshima Prefecture as “Hiroshima Peace Ambassadors”.
During the period of dispatch, these ambassadors serve as bridges between their host countries and Hiroshima by introducing Hiroshima's peace and various attractions, such as holding A-bomb exhibitions in their host countries.
