To comprehensively promote initiatives for nuclear weapons abolition, post-conflict reconstruction, and peacebuilding, we in Hiroshima Prefecture sought proposals for the “Hiroshima for Global Peace” Plan from domestic and international experts in fiscal year 2011. In the following
fiscal year, we formulated the Guidelines for Promoting the “Hiroshima for Global Peace” Plan to indicate the direction of initiatives based on this plan.
In fiscal year 2013, to concretize the initiatives based on these guidelines, we developed the Promotion Program for the
“Hiroshima for Global Peace” Plan, and since then, we have updated the program every three years.
“Hiroshima for Global Peace” Plan
In October 2011, we sought proposals for the “Hiroshima for Global Peace” Plan from the “Hiroshima for Global Peace” Plan Formulation Committee, composed of experts from both Japan and abroad. This plan defines the mission and role of Hiroshima, which has recovered from destruction by the first atomic bombing in human history.
Roles of Hiroshima for Global Peace proposed in the plan:
Supporting international efforts to follow the roadmap for the abolition of nuclear weapons
Reducing the risks of nuclear terrorism
Developing human resources for building a peaceful international community
Creating ideas for nuclear disarmament, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding
Building a sustainable peace support mechanism
Guidelines for Promoting the “Hiroshima for Global Peace” Plan
In fiscal year 2012, we established the Committee for Promoting the “Hiroshima for Global Peace” Plan and worked with related organizations to concretize the plan. The guidelines clarify Hiroshima's symbolic significance and future vision, indicating the direction of initiatives based on the plan.
