Nuclear History Summer Camp

The Hiroshima Organization for Global Peace (HOPe), in partnership with the Nuclear Proliferation International History Project (NPIHP) at the Wilson Center, is pleased to announce a call for application for Nuclear History Summer Camp 2025: Hiroshima Special Edition hosted from September 6 to September 16 in Hiroshima, marking 80 years since the atomic bombing.

The nine-day intensive camp is aimed at building a new generation of experts on the international history of the nuclear age. Participants will strengthen their research skills and be immersed in the history of nuclear matters ranging from the evolution of nuclear technology to the origins and development of deterrence theory and nuclear strategy through the historical roots of today’s global nuclear landscape. In this special edition, particular attention will be placed on themes HOPe has been working on, including nuclear disarmament, the humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapon use, and security without nuclear deterrence.

This will be the twelfth edition of the NPIHP nuclear history summer camp. The past camps contribute in promoting networking between scholars, experts, and academic/research institutes. Many former participants teach at universities, engage in research at think tank and research institutes, and work as advisors for governments and parliaments.

We encourage students who are enrolled in or have been accepted to Ph.D. programs for international relations, history, political science, and related fields, and those who have completed or are about to complete their M.A. degree and are considering a Ph.D. in any of the above fields to apply.
