Contribution to peace
Hiroshima Organization for Global Peace (HOPe)
Established in 2021, the Hiroshima Organization for Global Peace (HOPe) is a voluntary organization with the Hiroshima Prefecture Peace Promotion Project Team serving as the secretariat. HOPe collaborates with various sectors, including local economic organizations and universities, to implement initiatives aimed at realizing a peaceful global society.
Three approaches of HOPe
HOPe is currently implementing its peace initiatives through three approaches toward the abolition of nuclear weapons.
The three approaches are the Humanitarian Impact Approach, the Security Approach, and the Sustainability Approach.
Let's take a look at each of these approaches in detail.
1. Humanitarian Impact - Universal recognition of the humanitarian impact of the use of nuclear weapons -
(1) Request for influential people from around the world to visit Hiroshima
(2) Attracting and holding international conferences, etc.
Hiroshima Prefecture and HOPe, together with Hiroshima City and Nagasaki Prefecture and Nagasaki City, call on all leaders, from political leaders to religious and business leaders, to visit Hiroshima and Nagasaki from abroad to deepen their understanding of nuclear weapons use and its catastrophic consequences.
It is a very important process for the abolition of nuclear weapons that these people visit Hiroshima to learn about the reality of the atomic bombing through the Peace Memorial Museum and dialogue with the A-bomb survivors and recognize the inhumane nature of the use of nuclear weapons.
2. Security Approach
(1) Collaborate with international peace research institutions
SIPRI (Stockholm International Peace Research Institute):Clearing the path for nuclear disarmament: Confidence-building in the Korean Peninsula
RUSI (Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security):Reducing Reliance on Nuclear Deterrence and Global Security
The research project on security without reliance on nuclear deterrence runs in partnership between HOPe and two distinguished research institutes: SIPRI, Stockholm International Peace Research Institute in Sweden, and RUSI, the Royal United Services Institute in the UK.
Through the results of these research projects and our outreach activities, we would like governments around the world to recognize the need for policy changes and give serious consideration to this issue.
(2) Create and disseminate the Hiroshima Report
Hiroshima Report studies, analyzes and evaluates 36 countries' performance on nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation, and nuclear security in 2024.
3.Sustainability Approach
We will work with organizations that are tackling other global issues such as climate change, in order to spread the understanding that we cannot create a truly sustainable global environment without the abolition of nuclear weapons, and to position this as a goal in the next round of UN development goals, and to create a groundswell towards abolition.
●Making the elimination of nuclear weapons as one of the global agenda
We are at a watershed moment in history, and believe that we need to take a hard look at the risks of the nuclear weapons issue from the perspective of sustainable development as well.
The issue of security has not been discussed in the process of formulating the MDGs and the SDGs, but we believe that such a discussion of security will become an unavoidable issue for the next UN Development Goals in order to achieve a truly sustainable world.
Disarmament Education for Young People
It is also very important that young people, who will lead the next generation, understand the reality of the atomic bombing.
We are implementing programs here in Hiroshima, aiming at deepening the understanding of the inhumane nature of nuclear weapons, international politics, security, and peace studies among young people in Japan and abroad, who will become global leaders in the future.

Contribution
As much as 91.4 billion dollars a year has been spent on nuclear weapons, which could cause irreversible damage to humanity and the planet.
Wouldn't the world be a different place if even 1/10 of this money could be redirected to efforts to eliminate nuclear weapons?
We at HOPe work daily to abolish nuclear weapons and build a sustainable future. We kindly ask for your support in this endeavor. Each person's small donation can bring about significant change. We sincerely ask for your cooperation.
