These days, as the situation in Ukraine is becoming increasingly tense, concerns are rising over the risk of the use of nuclear weapons, and anxiety is spreading around the world that the survival of mankind may be at risk. Under such circumstances, the fact that Hiroshima was chosen as a venue for dialogue (between the G7 nations) that aims to achieve world peace and sustainable development indicates that Hiroshima’s ability to convey its message as an international city of peace and culture has been highly evaluated. In this light, we need to make efforts to increase momentum toward the realization of a truly peaceful world free of nuclear weapons by sending a powerful message of peace to the world.
Meanwhile, the G7 Hiroshima Summit will attract much attention of the people around the world, making it a perfect opportunity to spread the appeal of Hiroshima to the world. Hiroshima not only boasts two World Heritage sites but is also home to flourishing industries that support its development, rich nature, diverse and delicious food assets of the mountains and seas, and culture and lifestyles that have been woven through history. These are only some of Hiroshima’s charms, which are indispensable for enriching people’s lives. We must communicate such charms to the world, attract wider attention, and use this welcome chance to encourage many people visit Hiroshima or choose it as a partner.
For this very reason, we would like to encourage the leaders and delegations of participating countries, as well as many other visitors, to directly experience the appeal of Hiroshima. Through the G7 Summit, we aim to make those visitors feel glad to have come to Hiroshima. Meanwhile, we would also like to make the residents of the City of Hiroshima and Hiroshima Prefecture, who will welcome the visitors, feel pleased that the Summit has been held in Hiroshima by noticing the charms of Hiroshima again. We will strive to host the Hiroshima Summit in such a way that all the people involved will be happy.
