Message from Mary Robinson (Chair of The Elders, First woman President of Ireland and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights)
The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 marked the end of a terrible war in which untold innocent civilians were slain. Both cities have since shown great dignity and fortitude, not only in rebuilding but in confronting their history and becoming powerful advocates for peace.
