This playhouse theater stands in Mitarai, Osakishita Island, where the historical townscape still remains. Originally used for theatrical performances, it was later converted into a movie theater and then into a mandarin orange orchard, but has now been restored to its original appearance and is open to the public.
It has a wooden mortar finish with parapets, giving it the appearance of a billboard building. It also has a theater's typical features, such as hanamichi (elevated passageway running from the stage to the dressing room at the rear of the theater), naraka (a theater trap room), and balcony seats. The once great number of wooden playhouse theaters is decreasing nationwide, so those which remain are very valuable.
