The former Bank of Japan, Hiroshima Branch is a historic building that represents the early Showa period in Hiroshima as a bank building with a classicist design. The classicist design can be seen in the Greek columns, carved decorations, and decorative panels on the exterior facade, as well as in the bellows and central ornamentation on the first floor ceiling. Although the building was exposed to the atomic bombing on August 6, 1945, only 380 meters away from the hypocenter, it still retains much of its original appearance due to its solidity. In July 2000, the building was designated an Important Tangible Cultural Property by the City of Hiroshima and is now open to the public.
