This high-rise residential complex was planned to eliminate the dense wooden housing that arose in the process of reconstruction from the war damage in Hiroshima. The style of the building, with its pilotis (open space on the first floor) and rooftop garden, is in line with the modern architecture proposed by architect Le Corbusier. On the other hand, the unique zig-zag design of the buildings and the integrated design of the shopping district, assembly hall, school, bathhouse, fire station, etc., are also unique and important as a symbol of Hiroshima's reconstruction history and as a pioneer of urban design in Japan.
